There are many different types of Pahtoong, superficially looking the same, but having significant differences which affect the quality, and price, of the clothing.

 

A simple Pahtoong may be made from plain, dyed, cotton. A pattern may be added to provide a more luxury look.

 

There are a multitude of inexpensive Pahtoong designs, reflecting the different materials available and the patterns which appear to be mass-produced.

 

Thai festivals, such as the Buddhist New Year, or family occasions such as weddings, necesitate wearing something special. For ladies this is often the opportunity to purchase the best quality Pahtoong. 

 

Two of the highest quality Pahtoong originate from specific areas of Thailand. Thai-silk Pahtoongs are produced in the East of Thailand and hand-woven Pahtoongs in the North of Thailand.
